ConStar Watches Castle "Like Father, Like Daughter"

Oh wow, it’s kind of rare that we see the murder ever! and the— OH WAIT THERE’S BREAKING NEWS…. OH. Well, most of this episode is based on what I’ve seen from Tumblr posts and other recaps, as most of my episode was pre-empted by awful local news.
Castle wants to get married in space! lol
Alexis’ determination is becoming actually pretty bratty to me. She always gets whatever she wants and when she doesn’t, she kind of flips out. (Examples include her Stanford rejection, her father’s treatment of Pi, and the story Castle tells about Alexis holding her breath until she passed out–he almost praises it when it was a really dumb move her for.)
Alexis wants to be right, but refuses to accept that her father might know better than her. Alexis’ attitude is wrong, and poor Castle wants to be in her good graces so much that he isn’t standing up to it. But I come from a different background in terms of parent/child relationships. It’s well known in the black community that the parent is always right: you do not talk back, you do not give attitude, you do what you are told. There are ways in which this is bad and destructive and occasionally abusive, but there are many ways in which is works to garner respect between the parent and child. Alexis’ respect for her father waxes and wanes depending on him giving her what she wants, and that aspect of their relationship is unhealthy.
Even here Alexis thinks she’s right and will get what she wants. As much as it sucks to wish execution even with a fictional character, I need her to learn some sort of lesson in episode. She’s bossy and, in the beginning, she’s also pretty dismissive of her father’s ability to help in her tone.
I missed most of the episode due to an unfortunate breaking news story of a shooting at a mall in New Jersey, but I was underwhelmed by the beginning and the end pieces. The case was just ok, and I watch the show for Castle and Beckett, not Castle and Alexis (just being super honest). It seems her attitude adjusts a bit by the end. But I really wish we’d gotten to see Beckett and Alexis conversation. they haven’t spoken since, maybe, “Cops and Robbers”, which wasn’t the best last time we saw them speak. I think any Alexis/Castle episode would benefit from more Beckett. At this point, the fans want to see Castle and Beckett form this family and that includes Alexis. It’s awkward that they are never seen speaking and when we do get a scene, it’s mute. Hopefully, we get at least one verbal scene between the two women before the wedding (or dare I say, at least at the wedding?!). They both love Castle so much and while I think they’ll grow to respect each other, I want to see them bonding more over their love for him.
Until next week!
